Fine

Fine and petty fine

A fine is passed as day fines, the minimum amount of which is one day fine and the maximum 120 day fines. The number of the day fines depends on the severity of the offence whereas the monetary value of one day fine depends on the financial standing of the sentenced offender. An unpaid fine is converted into imprisonment in a separate trial. Three day fines correspond to imprisonment for one day. A conversion sentence is at least four days and at most 60 days of imprisonment.

Petty fine

A petty fine, also known as summary penal fee, is a pecuniary penalty of a fixed amount in euros. It cannot be converted into imprisonment.
