Director General of the Criminal Sanctions Agency of Finland Esa Vesterbacka will retire at the beginning of September

Director General Esa Vesterbacka, who has been the head of the Criminal Sanctions Agency of Finland for 14 years, will retire on 1 September 2019. He informed the staff of his decision at the beginning of May.

Director General Vesterbacka has worked in the prison and probation services for 32 years. He holds a Licentiate of Laws degree and is trained on the bench.

Director General Vesterbacka will start his holiday at the beginning of June after which he will work only for short periods in July and August. Before a new Director General is appointed, the duties will be carried out by the officials, who normally deputise for Director General. The deputies are Director Heli Herna, Development Director Pauli Nieminen, HR Director Marko Oresmaa and Director of Security Ari Juuti.
