Sending money to a prisoner changes

The pre­vi­ous pris­oner pay­ment card sys­tem ex­pired on 30 No­vem­ber 2023. Fam­ily mem­bers can trans­fer money to pris­on­ers via the joint pris­oner ac­count of the Prison and Pro­ba­tion Ser­vice.

Since 26 November 2023, it has not been possible to transfer money directly to the prisoners’ payment cards. Possible transfers return to the account of the payer automatically.

Family members can transfer money to prisoners via the joint prisoner account of the Prison and Probation Service. The primary account number used for benefits paid by authorities is the prisoner’s personal bank account outside the prison.
