Suomenlinna Prison is the principal partner of the Governing Body of Suomenlinna. Renovation of the fortress walls is carried out as prison work managed by the master builders of the open prison. Part of the renovation of buildings and landscaping is also commissioned as prison work. Read more from the Suomenlinna web site

Staff

Suomenlinna Prison employs 40 staff members, including prison officers, work supervisors, administrative staff and other specialist staff.

Activities

Prisoners of Suomenlinna Prison repair and restore the buildings and walls of Suomenlinna Sea Fortress and maintain the island's landscape, respecting the significance and history of the World Heritage Site. The Governing Body of Suomenlinna determines which work sites are assigned to the prison.

Prisoners may participate in various activities outside the prison that support the goals of their sentence plans. Vocational training is also available within the prison.

In their free time, prisoners can use the prison's indoor and outdoor gyms and go jogging. They can visit the Suomenlinna Library once a week.

Visiting a prisoner

Visits are arranged on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays between 11.30 and 13.30.
Visitors are not allowed to bring pets. Please check the prison rules below for more detailed instructions on visits.

The prison does not have designated parking spaces for visitors with disabilities or reduced mobility.
