Johanna Huusko appointed Head of the Training Institute for Prison andProbation Service as of 1 June 2025

Jo­hanna Hu­usko, Doc­tor of Mil­i­tary Sci­ence, Mas­ter of Arts and Mas­ter of Ed­u­ca­tion, has been ap­pointed Head of the Train­ing In­sti­tute for Prison and Pro­ba­tion Ser­vice. Her ap­point­ment starts as a fixed term un­til 31 Oc­to­ber 2025, af­ter which the po­si­tion will be­come per­ma­nent. The Train­ing In­sti­tute is re­spon­si­ble for the vo­ca­tional ed­u­ca­tion and train­ing lead­ing to qual­i­fi­ca­tion in prison and pro­ba­tion ser­vices and the in-ser­vice train­ing of the prison and pro­ba­tion staff.

The Head of the Training Institute oversees and develops its operations. Each year, more than 100 prison officers graduate from the Training Institute.

Prior to this appointment, Huusko served as Head of Training and Development at the Finnish Immigration Service.

“The work of security authorities and the development of skills and working life have always been my passion,” says Huusko, expressing her delight at the appointment.

A total of 29 candidates applied for the position, with about half meeting the required qualifications.

The Prison and Probation Service is responsible for the enforcement of prison sentences and community sanctions. It employs approximately 2,700 people across Finland. The Training Institute, located in Vantaa, is a unit of the Prison and Probation Service.
